Reminder: Jef Gunn's Workshops

This is more than just a plein air class; we will take a seasonal look at the world around us. The Winter season offers subtlety and elegance in its withdrawn color radiance. Capturing this quietude requires patient color mixing and studied composition. Join this ongoing study of light and play in a convivial exploration of the power of place out on location and the richness of analysis and refinement in the studio at The Tiger Cave Studio. As always, we will cover issues of composition, paint handling, and color palette for the season both precise and expressive.

We will spend about five of our ten classes out in the wilds of northwest Oregon or southwest Washington, engaged in painting from observation. And another five sessions in the Studio.

Saturday afternoons 12:30-4:30pm Winter section begins January 23

10 Sessions $345
5 sessions $175
Drop- In $40 per class

This is a class for painters who are ready to center in on their work and push forward. It’s not a class on style or vision; it’s a class about discovery and the exploration of your leading edge. This winter season we will focus on the many approaches to working with Nature, the Wild, or Landscape. Whether you work by eidetic imagery or from observation of light and land, from concepts or through pattern and abstraction, together we will examine what intrigues each of us in painting and in turn how to make your work clearer and stronger. Through group and individual critiques, lectures and open discussion, we will cover formal and philosophical issues in painting.

Beginning Tuesday, January 12, 2010
Meeting every other Tuesday evening for 10 meetings (ending in late May)
6:30 - 9:30

What people are saying (workshop testimonials):

In a two day workshop Jef got me to make some major changes in my thinking and painting. I had struggled with some things for years and in no time those negatives completely fell away! Jef's workshop changed my life--and that is no exaggeration.
--Mark Larsen

There is no other teacher like Jef Gunn. Jef is serious, but not intimidating. Once you begin working with him, you will understand why he is one of the most sought after and respected teachers in Oregon and Washington.
--June O. Underwood

Art talk with a inspirational leader like Jef is an Artist's Dream and being in a organized class like this one is setting up conditions so art can truly happen.
--Sandra Longmore

Jef's enthusiasm is contagious and I came away from the workshop inspired. Jef taught about things that no other teacher had mentioned....important things! It's obvious why he has so many devotees and also why his work is in so many TOP Northwest Galleries..he's a great painter and a great teacher.. one who delves far beyond the "surface".
It's a rare opportunity to be able to work side by side with an artist of his caliber.
