Pacific Northwest Plein Air Gallery Exhibition
Columbia Art Gallery in Hood River, Oregon announces its September Exhibition, “Pacific Northwest Plein Air 2009, Painting Outdoors from the Mountains to the Sea” featuring 32 Regional Artists. The Pacific Northwest is Plein Air Painter Paradise. Each year, artists gather in the Columbia River Gorge to take in the stunning beauty of its black basalt cliffs, ribbon-like waterfalls, and lush fir forests. In November 1986, Congress recognized the unique beauty of the Gorge when it made it the nation's first National Scenic Area. In a very small area, there is a diverse range of climate zones for artists to paint.
This year’s 5th Annual Pacific Northwest Plein Air exhibit focuses on paintings and about our natural surroundings. The artists for this event are dedicated to the historic tradition of painting directly from life. Through this approach of firsthand observation, they capture atmospheric conditions, light, and beautiful scenery that surrounds us all. The public is invited to the artists’ reception and show opening on Friday, September 4, from 6 - 8pm. The show will continue through September 27.
This year the Columbia Art Gallery is proud to feature these exceptional artists:

There will also be an opportunity for the public to cast a vote for their favorite painting for the People’s Choice Award. Show Coordinator, Cathleen Rehfeld, has been organizing this event in Hood River since its conception 5 years ago. “Every year more artists apply and more collectors come to buy. We are fortunate that Hood River offers such a good central location for artists to congregate and also provide quick access to the variety of climate zones within a 30 mile radius,” Rehfeld says of the event. For more information on this event please visit our website: www.ColumbiaArts.org.

Art on the Boulevard's "Art in the Heart" August 7 & August 8
"Art Lesson" by Oleg Ulitsky
Message from Kevin Weaver, Gallery Director, Art on the Boulevard:
I hope you are all staying cool and enjoying your summer! We are once again doing our annual "Art in the Heart" outdoor art event and sale for First Friday. This year's event proves to be even bigger and better than last year's. We'll have artists who are working in all different media and styles set up outside along the sidewalk (and a few inside the courtyard). Many of
the artists will be offering special one weekend only "festival pricing" on their work, some of the artists will be doing demonstrations of their work. This is a perfect opportunity to talk with the artists one on one, watch some of them at work and if you find something you love, pick up some artwork at a great price.
The event runs First Friday, August 7th from 4 to 9 pm and Saturday August 8th from 10 am to 4 pm. There will be food available from Woody's Taco's, Thai Orchid, Humdinger Kettle Korn and TC's Ice Cream. On Saturday we will have free art projects for the kids courtesy of Kidz Art.
Artists who are scheduled to participate this year at our location are:
Rebecca Anstine - watercolor and acrylic paintings
Oleg Ulitskiy - oil paintings
Lynn Walker-Webb - jewelry
Melisse Laing - quilt work
Katie Kelly - photography
Jan Taylor-Taskey - paintings & mixed media sculpture
James Proctor - sculpture
Mike Rangner - oil paintings
Mitch Baird - oil paintings
Gene Wigglesworth - paintings and t-shirts
Sarah Cosman - acrylic paintings
Anna King - paintings
Jerred Breeden - paintings
Cirith Sebree - jewelry
Ruth Mabrey - jewelry
And of course the gallery will be open to wonder through to see what's new.
Other galleries participating in Art in the Heart (at their locations) are:
Aurora Gallery, Angst Gallery, 6th Street Gallery and the Academy Art
Alliance.
If you have any questions on the event please feel free to contact me. We hope to see you there!
